Now we are open year-round!!! However, for group tours in the winter, contact the site by phone, letter or email, but remember that the site manager will not be in the office all the time, in the winter, to answer you immediately.
HOURS:
Remember, this is the Eastern
time zone.
Until April 1, 2010: Tuesday through
Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, last guided
tour starting at 4:30.
STARTING APRIL 2, 2010 through
December 18, 2010,
Wednesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM,
and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
Last daily tour starts at 4:30 PM each day the site is open.
Only open by appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays starting April
2, 2010.
Closed on Veterans'
Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
LOCATION: 200 East 6th Street, just off State Road 27, Geneva Indiana in Adams County. Cabin is visible from State Road 27. Parking lot beside the property. Downtown Geneva is a two-block walk from the Cabin. Adams County abuts the Ohio state line in northeast Indiana. You might want to stay at the Bear Creek Farms resort in Bryant, Indiana. Golden Egg Easter Egg Hunt
April 3, 2010; 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
$1 per child; parents are free.
Families are invited to the
Limberlost State Historic Site for an epic Golden Easter Egg Hunt.
Bring your own bucket or bag to gather as many eggs as you
possibly can. Children ages 0 to 12 are invited to join in on the
egg hunt. Be on the lookout for the Golden Egg to win a special
prize. House tours are not included.
Creatures of the Night
April 23; 8:30 -10 p.m.
$3 per person
Discover what creatures lurk in the
Limberlost Swamp at night. Children and adults alike will explore
the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in search of night creatures.
Visitors will learn to identify the sounds and calls of nocturnal
animals. Guests can discover whose "glowing eyes" are staring back
at them and learn the migration patterns of amphibians and
reptiles in the area.
Loblolly Marsh Wetland Tours
May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4; 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
$2 per person
Take a tour of the famous
Limberlost Swamp in Adams and Jay Counties. Participants will
learn about the history of the swamp and discover what the future
holds.
Go Green with Gene: School Event
May 14; Session 1: 9 - 11 a.m. and Session 2: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
$2 per student
Visit the Limberlost Swamp to
discover how Gene Stratton-Porter's legacy as an early 20th
century environmentalist and naturalist is carried on today as we
look at ways to “Go Green.” Finger foods provided by Friends of
the Limberlost.
Go Green with Gene: Public Event
May 15; 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$3 per person
Families will enjoy a jam-packed
day of events demonstrating environmental management skills.
Stations will include recycling, alternative energy sources, local
waste management resources, Loblolly Marsh Tours, wetland
restoration demonstration and participation, games, carriage
rides, recycling crafts, composting and replanting of native
wildflowers and trees. Finger foods provided by Friends of the
Limberlost.
Bluegrass Jamborees
July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19; 2 - 4 p.m.
Free, but donations are encouraged!
Volunteer musicians gather on the
site to play a variety of bluegrass, gospel and folk music. Bring
an instrument and join in or bring a lawn chair and sit back and
enjoy the music.
Soaring with Butterflies
July 24; 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
$3 per person
Visitors can learn all about
butterflies by participating in many activities, including
displays, butterfly releases, kite-making, photo contests and
crafts.
Discover Nature
Aug. 19; 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
$4 per person
Home schoolers are invited to
discover the world of Gene Stratton-Porter as they travel through
four stations at the Limberlost. Participants will also take a
tour of the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve. Remember to bring a
sack lunch to eat on the grounds.
Porter, Pets, and Poetry
August 21; 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
$2.00/person. Pets are free!
Families are invited to bring their
pets to the Limberlost State Historic Site to learn about Gene
Stratton-Porter and the Limberlost Swamp. Pets can partake in
obstacle courses, a best dressed contest, a best trick contest,
and have their picture taken in front of the cabin. Meanwhile, pet
owners can learn about Gene's nature photography, listen to
readings of Gene's nature poems, watch a nature slide show, create
a poem of their own about a beloved critter, and journey through
the Limberlost cabin as free pet sitters will be on site. Each
family will receive a special gift for their pet. Refreshments
will be provided for all pets and their humans!
Music of the Wild
Sept. 18; 2 - 4 p.m.
$2 per person
Discover the "Song of the
Limberlost: A Musical Look at Gene Stratton-Porter" by Adrienne
Provenzano. Enjoy storytelling, dramatic and humorous readings,
educational commentary and even audience participation. Visitors
will be able to see the winners of the songwriting and photography
contests and tune into original pieces of music based on Gene's
work and composed by members of the community.
Walk Like A Naturalist
Sept. 29 and 30; 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
$3 per child; one free adult for every six children
Preschool children will participate
in nature activities while learning about Gene Stratton-Porter and
the Limberlost Swamp. They will learn where animals live, the
difference between living and nonliving, about plant colors and
shapes, and make a nature-inspired craft. Must pre-register.
Sharing Your World with Wildlife
Oct. 9; 1 - 5 p.m.
$6 per scout / one adult chaperone is free with every six scouts / additional adult tickets are $2 per person
Cub Scouts will discover the life
and legacy of Gene Stratton-Porter as they take a tour of the
Limberlost cabin and the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve. Scouts
will also earn their Bear Achievement #5 by participating in
stations including meeting a conservation officer, making a poster
about wildlife, and building a birdhouse.
Spooktacular
Oct. 23; 1 - 4 p.m.
$3 per person
See a live display of animals that
most people tend to think are creepy, crawly and better off
squished! Visitors are encouraged to handle the animals in order
to better familiarize themselves with a variety of creatures.
Spooky crafts, games and refreshments will be available. All
children in costume will receive a goodie bag courtesy of the
Friends of the Limberlost.
Christmas Open House
Dec. 11; 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
$3 per person
Enjoy Christmas displays, a show by Limber Jim, visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, participate in a treasure hunt, create a holiday craft and enjoy delicious refreshments. Groups of eight or more should pre-register by Dec. 8.
Probably many more activities will take place. They just aren't scheduled yet!

FEES: There is a charge, but only for the guided tour
at the Limberlost Cabin or for special programs as noted above.
Fees for the guided tour are $3.50 for adults,
$3.00 for seniors, $2.00 for children unless otherwise noted.
This change was completely necessary. A portion of the
collected money will be used for emergency repairs, a portion will go
to the State for publicizing the State Historic Sites, and part will
help enhance the visitor's experience. If
you have joined Friends of the Limberlost, you won't need to
pay the charge, and you will have a 10% discount in the gift
