Now we are open year-round!!!   However, for group tours in the winter, contact the site by phone, letter or email, but remember that the site manager will not be in the office all the time, in the winter,  to answer you immediately.

HOURSRemember, this is the Eastern time zone.
Until April 1, 2011: Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM,   last guided tour starting at 4:30. 

STARTING APRIL 2,  2011 through Christmas, 2011,
Wednesday through Saturday,
 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
Last daily tour starts at 4:30 PM each day the site is open.
Only open by appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays  starting April 2, 2011.
Closed on Veterans' Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

LOCATION: 200 East 6th Street, just off State Road 27, Geneva Indiana in Adams County.  Cabin is visible from State Road 27.  Parking lot beside the property.  Downtown Geneva is a two-block walk from the Cabin.  Adams County abuts the Ohio state line in northeast Indiana. Limberlost Events 2011 

Brownie Wildlife Badge
Saturday, March 26, 10 a.m. – Noon
$4.00 per scout, Scout leaders free.

Girl Scouts will fulfill requirements for earning the wildlife badge and take a tour of the Loblolly Marsh. Badge not included in the admission cost.

Creatures of the Night

April 23; 8:30 -10 p.m.

$3 per person

Discover what creatures lurk in the Limberlost Swamp at night. Children and adults alike will explore the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in search of night creatures. Visitors will learn to identify the sounds and calls of nocturnal animals. Guests can discover whose "glowing eyes" are staring back at them and learn the migration patterns of amphibians and reptiles in the area.

Golden Egg Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 23, 2010; 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

$1 per child; parents are free.

Families are invited to the Limberlost State Historic Site for an epic Golden Easter Egg Hunt. Bring your own bucket or bag to gather as many eggs as you possibly can. Children ages 0 to 12 are invited to join in on the egg hunt. Be on the lookout for the Golden Egg to win a special prize.  House tours are not included.

Guided Loblolly Marsh Wetland Tours

May 7, June 4, July 2, Aug. 6, Sept. 3; 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

$2 per person

Orientation at 9:30 a.m. at the Limberlost cabin, followed by a guided tour of the Marsh.
The famous Limberlost Swamp lies in Adams and Jay Counties. Participants will learn about the history of the swamp and discover what the future holds.
 
 

Go Green with Gene: School Event

May 14; Session 1: 9 - 11 a.m. and Session 2: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

$2 per student

Visit the Limberlost Swamp to discover how Gene Stratton-Porter's legacy as an early 20th century environmentalist and naturalist is carried on today as we look at ways to “Go Green.” Finger foods provided by Friends of the Limberlost. 
 

Go Green with Gene: Public Event

May 15; 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

$3 per person

Families will enjoy a jam-packed day of events demonstrating environmental management skills. Stations will include recycling, alternative energy sources, local waste management resources, Loblolly Marsh Tours, wetland restoration demonstration and participation, games, carriage rides, recycling crafts, composting and replanting of native wildflowers and trees. Finger foods provided by Friends of the Limberlost. 
 

Bluegrass Jamborees

July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 19; 2 - 4 p.m.

FREE, but donations are encouraged!

Volunteer musicians gather on the site to play a variety of bluegrass, gospel and folk music. Bring an instrument and join in or bring a lawn chair and sit back and enjoy the tunes. People and donations welcome!

Discover Nature

Aug. 11; 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

$4 per person

Home schoolers, parents and children  move through  stations as they learn about GeneStratton-Porter and the natural science of Limberlost Swamp. Remember to bring a sack lunch to eat on the grounds. Must pre-register. 
 

Porter, Pets, and Poetry

Saturday, August 20; 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

$2.00/person. Pets are free!

Bring your pets, camera and notebook as you learn about Gene Stratton-Porter and the Limberlost Swamp. Pets can enter the best dressed contest, a best trick contest, while their owners can learn about Mrs. Porter’s poetry, nature studies and photography.  Pet sitters will be on hand while you tour the cabin, but owners are responsible for any accidents or messes. Pets Are Free!

Wonders of Wetlands

Saturday, August 27, 7 -9 p.m.
$3 per person

Families will get a chance to explore wetland habitats and learn about creatures of the Limberlost Swamp, discover how wetlands were created during the Ice Age and investigate restoration efforts at the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve.

Walk Like A Naturalist

Sept. 28, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. September 29th is the spillover date.

$3 per child

Preschool children can “Walk Like A Naturalist”, explore animal habitats and colorful plant life, and enjoy hands-on activities that introduce them to wetlands creatures.
Each child will make a nature-inspired craft to take home. They will also learn about the life and home of famous Indiana Naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter.  Must pre-register.

Brownie Girl Scout Event

   Saturday, Ocotber 1, 10 am to 2 p.m.

Cub Scout Event

   Saturday October 8, 1 to 5 p.m.

Spooktacular

   Oct. 22; 6 - 8 p.m.

$3 per person

Touch live creepy, crawly, critters.  Explore wild animal behavior. Play Halloween games.  Win candy and prizes.  Meet the Swamp Monster.  Children in costume receive a goody bag. 

Christmas Open House

Saturday, Dec. 10;    10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

$3 per person

Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy Limber Jim’s swamp show, and listen to a live performance of holiday music. Children can make a craft and do the outdoor “Treasure Challenge.” Holiday refreshments for everyone!

Groups of eight or more should pre-register.

  FEES: There is a charge, but only for the guided tour at the Limberlost Cabin or for special programs as noted above. 

Fees for the guided tour are $3.50 for adults,  $3.00 for seniors, $2.00 for children unless otherwise noted.
This change was completely necessary.   A portion of the collected money will be used for emergency repairs, a portion will go to the State for publicizing the State Historic Sites, and part will help enhance the visitor's experience. 
If you have joined Friends of the Limberlost, you won't need to pay the  charge, and you will have a 10% discount in the gift shop. (Details for joining are at this link
