Don’t forget to
mark your calendars for fans weekend to be held
July 28-30 in
Fairmount, Indiana. Events for the weekend will be a
fan get together 6:30 Friday night at
Payne’s Frozen Custard
near CrackerBarrel at exit 59 off I-69, the Gas City exit.
On Saturday afternoon, 1:00 at the Lions' Club building on South Main Street, there will be a James Dean Jeopardy game hosted by Lenny.
On Saturday night there will be a dinner with guest speakers, dutch-treat at Ryan's Steak House in Marion, on the bypass. Silent auction I think.
On
Sunday afternoon a wonderful
potluck picnic in the side yard of Rebel Rebel, 425 N. Main St.
Fairmount.
This is sure to be a great time.
Hope we see you there. For more info you can email Sue at
deaner4ever@yahoo.com, Pam at
pjcrawford@comcast.net
or call David Loehr
(the host for the weekend) at
765 948 3326.
What is a silent auction? There will be items on a table, with a sign-up list for each item. You sign your name and add what you would pay, and each person who signs that particular page has to bid higher. You can go back and bid on the things you want as much as you need to. I expect to see a lot of items at this year's auction. The James Dean Remembered fan club needs the money to buy ink cartridges for our superb color printer.
NEW GALLERY IS NOW IN AUBURN, INDIANA

Tragic news tonight(1/12/2005) from Holland.
Mari reports that Louise Donk has died, killed by someone
who threw a large rock off an overpass. Louise was driving
out from under the overpass and the rock smashed the windshield
and hit her in the face. David Loehr learned this by email
tonight. He told Mark Kinnaman who called me and Pamela
Crawford.
Louise and Mari hosted Jamie DeWeese when he went to Europe in the
summer of 2004.
Louise
Donk and Mari at the new Gallery on September 5, 2004. We
are publishing pictures and comments and letters and poems here on
a memorial page for Louise. The page address is

Our President, Pamela Crawford:
JDR member>Brian Stites is involved in an exciting James Dean project celebrating 50 years of Rebel Without A Cause. Working through the non-profit organization Barely Balancing Artists, the project celebrating the 50th anniversary of REBEL includes an off-Broadway production of the landmark film. The group hopes their attention to this important film will not only honor it but also demonstrate the film's continuing relevancy in cinema and society today. If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation to help this cause or just want to know more about the project, Brian encourages you to visit their web site at http://www.rebelwithoutacause.net/
********** PBS DOCUMENTARY ON DEAN **********
JDR was recently contacted by representatives of PBS (in NYC) about a new documentary they are filming on James Dean for their American Masters series. The documentary is set to air in the year 2005. This documentary is the Public Broadcasting System's nod to the 50th anniversary of James Dean's movie career and tragic death on 9/30/55. PBS is interviewing friends and family of Jimmie to add authenticity to their film so they contacted us for a list of some of those acquaintances. PBS reps recently spent time in Marfa, Texas interviewing people who had the opportunity to get to know Jimmie during the making of GIANT. One of their representatives, Jim Brennan of NYC, assured me that their documentary will be as accurate as humanly possible and will avoid sensationalism. We'll let you know as soon as we find out the exact dates the documentary will air. PBS is also working with Johnny Calderon, JDR member and Director of the Marfa Chamber of Commerce, about possibly airing the documentary during Marfa's July 2005 GIANT celebration.
********** ATTITUDE **********
Check out John McEnroe's new book, You Can't Be Serious. Does that pose remind you of anyone? Although McEnroe definitely comes with his own prerequisite ATTITUDE, someone needs to tell him that no one can ever fill Jimmie Dean's shoes -- or his overcoat! However, Jimmie just might feel a kindred -- rebellious -- spirit with tennis' favorite bad boy.
AVON CALLING JAMES DEAN Member Teresita Gonzalez sent the following notice to alert JDR members to contact the nearest Avon representative ASAP: To commemorate the 50th anniversary of James Dean’s stellar rise to fame and untimely death, Avon is selling a cool James Dean watch.
